The track was as much of a character as the riders themselves on this first of two South American flyaways. The dusty conditions on Saturday even caused the riders to group together and sit out the qualification heats.

The CP377 Monster Energy Pro Circuit racer thrilled 17,000 Italian fans soaking up the sunshine close to the coast in eastern Italy with a titanic battle with fellow Kawasaki rider Gautier Paulin in the first moto.

Monster Energy’s Gautier Paulin won a scorching Grand Prix of Bulgaria in front 15,000 fans in Sevlievo having diced it out with Christophe Pourcel in each Moto. Over in MX2 Tommy Searle bossed the pack to stand on top of the box and ensured Monster riders dominated the weekend.

After Saturday’s qualifying effort, it was easy to believe that Team USA – which won all three qualifying races on Saturday – was going to run away with the Motocross of Nations here in St. Jean D’Angely, France, but the Nations race format is an interesting one, and things rarely go smoothly for any team.
