About Steve
Steve Peat, nicknamed “Sheffield Steel” or more commonly just plain “Peaty” is salt of the earth and has dedicated a huge part of his life to the world of downhill mountain bike racing. He was born and bred in Sheffield, England, and has been a figurehead for the MTB world for over 17 years now after breaking away from his career as a plumber. When asked to sum up his riding style, Peaty said “I can ride most terrain fast, carry speed well, hit technical sections fast, and keep a level head when it comes to the mental side of things”.
His career record boasts 17 World Cup wins, 3 World Cup Champion titles, 2 European Champion titles, 8 British Champion titles, 8 Lisbon Downtown wins, over 50 World Cup podiums, 4 Silver medals at the World Championship and, what was the “monkey on his back” for 17 years, 1 World Championship win in 2009. Steve has won every major event in his sport, is a role model and hero to many, and is still the most genuine and down-to-earth guy you could ever meet.
Aside from his professional riding career, Peaty has many other involvements with the sport, including work on the design and manufacturing of clothing gear. He has helped establish academies for young groms wanting to get structured advice when entering the sport, resulting in the Steve Peat academy now becoming a reality. Following his 2009 World Championship win, he has also released his own game “Steve Peat – Downhill Mountain Biking” for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
