About Dufresne

Dufresne was born six years ago from the union of Dominik (vocals), Zeno (drums), Ciube (bass and vocals), Luca (guitar) and Ale (keyboards and effects). The guys borrowed their name from the main character of “The Shawshank Redemption”, novel by Stephen King and cult-movie by Tim Robbins.

The band from Vicenza, Italy, takes it very seriously from the very beginning, by approaching record companies with a “demotape” that sounds more like a proper album, 12 songs sung in Italian produced by David Lenci (One Dimensional Man, Blonde Redhead, Steve Albini). On the live side, the five guys are just as strong, opening for bands such as From Autumn To Ashes, The Bled and Hell Is For Heroes amongst others. Sharing the stage with international outfits gives them the idea to hit the studio again and re-record six tracks in English with Darian Rundall (Pennywise, Yellowcard, Suicidal Tendencies), so to open a door towards foreign countries.

Finally the interest from labels arrive: in 2006 Dufresne signs with V2 Records and release their first album Atlantic, an explosive mixture of hardcore, metal, rock and electronic, each one contaminating and pervading each other. The lyrics are both in Italian and English. Atlantic is also released in France, Germany and, absolute rarity for an Italian band, the UK. In order to present their record the way they do it best, which means live on stage, Dufresne leaves immediately for a tour of Italy, France, Germany, Netherlands and England.

The following year the band finds itself with a contract with Universal, as consequence of some changes in between record companies. They hole up in the studio for a long pre-production after which they leave for the USA, where they get to spend three intense weeks at the Red Planet Studios in Richmond, Virginia, and record their new record with Andreas Magnusson (Spitfire, Black Dahlia Murder, The Agony Scene). Lovers comes out in 2008, a majestic and furious record, which “sounds as an American band with an European sensitivity”, to tell it in the producer’s words. Alienating, dark, freezing moods blend with melodic Deftones-like lines, while the use of electronic gets more apparent, coming to the surface from a magma of distortions, screams and grooves.

At the end of 2009, after a long series of changes which leads them to sign with Wynona Records, Dominik, Luca, Zeno, Ale and Ciube are ready to write the third chapter of their history. Alessandro (keyboards) has spent some time in Australia and gathered new ideas. Davide Zenorini (Zeno) and Luca Dal Lago (guitar) have continued to improve their technique and play as hard as hell every time they could. Nicola Cerantola (Dominik) has been working on new artworks, not forgetting to scream louder and louder into the mic. The bass player Matteo Tabacco (Ciube) has started a new side-job as producer and has set his own studio called “Raptor”. It is in this studio that the guys start to work together, soon turning out with a bunch of new songs which all deal with the concept of day and night. The choice of the title AM:PM comes very natural. The co-producer is once again an exceptional guest, Matt Hyde. AM:PM will be out on May 18th, a more “adult”, more rock-oriented record, but sure not a less powerful one. A nice Italian story goes on.
